Day 90: Almeria, Spain

Day 90: October 20th

We were headed to the beach once again today. I know we’ll see the ocean again when we’re in Northern France but it won’t be the same sunny weather.

We decided to go to Almeria instead of Malaga as it was just more convenient to get there. Almeria and the towns near by are known to have some of the best beaches in Spain especially for wind surfing and kite boarding.

Our first stop in Almeria however was the Alcazaba which is a moorish fortress and is the second largest moorish fortress after the Alhambra. It was built in the 10th century but huge portions of the fortress were destroyed in an earthquake in the 16th century. Not all parts of the fortress have been restored. Some parts have been left as ruins which I liked. Situated on top of a hill, the fortress had amazing views of the Mediterranean.

After lunch, we walked away from the city centre (which was completely dead on a Sunday afternoon) towards the beach. The beach front was a completely different story. It was alive with a lot of cafés and families all spending their weekends on the beach.

It was a relaxing afternoon doing what we do best.:)

We also just realized that today we completed three months on the road. We’ve seen so much in the past three months and although we’re a bit sad that our grand adventure is almost coming to an end, we’re also very excited to be going home in a few weeks.
