Day 83: Madrid, Spain

Day 83: October 13th

Madrid has been all about spending time with our friends. We would have loved to have seen some of the famous museums here like the Prado but we decided to skip some of those sights in favor of meeting our friends.

We had lunch with Carmen and her husband Roberto. Carmen studied with Bill and me at ISB and we hadn’t seen her in three years. There was also a little addition to their family…Diego, who was such a charming baby. He was smiling the entire time!:)

After lunch, they drove us around the city on a quick tour of the down town areas. Jorge and Irene have done that too on different occasions over the last few days. We finally got dropped off in the city and walked around for a while longer. We settled in a lovely road side cafe eventually and spent the rest of the afternoon there till Irene and Jorge caught up with us.

It was time to go to Madrid’s most famous area for tapas, La Latina. It was a great way to spend our last evening with lots of Sangria and some amazing tapas.

It has been wonderful to spend so much time with our friends and we’ve really enjoyed Madrid. Thanks to Irene and Jorge for their amazing hospitality.

We are on yet another ridiculously early morning train to Santiago tomorrow.:)
