Day 79 and 80: Barcelona, Spain

Day 79 and 80: October 9th and 10th

We spent an amazing two more days in Barcelona catching up with friends and just walking around the city for miles and miles.
Our hostel was in the old town..around ten minutes from La Rambla so it was relatively quiet but you could still see how touristy it was. We walked through the back lanes and one our friends, Marc, who is a local gave us an excellent impromptu tour around the old town as well.

The city is also synonymous with the works of Gaudi so of course we went to see the towering Sagrada Familia. Construction started in the late 1800s and is still on going. They say it could be finished by 2020 but who really knows!:) We also checked out Park Guell, another one of Gaudi’s famous creations. Of course, he is long dead but he left behind his blue prints. For more on the Sagrada Familia you can read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sagrada_Fam%C3%ADlia.

The weather and the food has been amazing. Bill is tiring of the Paella but I sure am not!:) I finally decided not to fight the urge to shop! So off I went to Zara and Mango. I’ve seen them all over Europe and it’s significantly cheaper than in Singapore but I knew they would be even better in Spain given that they are local brands here. What a fun few hours!:) Bill of course read the NYT in a cafe near by with wine and tapas for company. Everyone’s a winner!:)

We head to Madrid next.
