Day 50: September 10th
Lenno is a small town just twenty minutes south of Menaggio on the lake. The town has a weekly Tuesday market…some fresh produce, clothes and other odds and ends. We had heard that it is a fun place to visit so we made our way there. The entire length of the lakeside promenade was lined with vendors selling all manner of everyday goods including, clothes, shoes, bath and kitchen wares, bedding, tools, crafts, birds and, of course, food. After some shopping for warmer clothes (for Bill and I) for the remainder of the trip, it was time for lunch. We found a charming pizzeria by the water and split two very yummy pizzas. 🙂
In the afternoon we drove to the town of Bellagio which is on the northern tip of the peninsula that join the two arms of the lake(the lake is shaped like the letter ‘Y’). The drive there was very scenic with some fairly steep drops, narrow mountain roads and dotted with beautiful villas. Bellagio itself is a very pretty town. Mom and I left the boys at a coffee shop and walked up the Main Street which is a steep and narrow cobbled path with shops on either side. I’m not shopping much on this trip but we did see some amazing leather bags!:) For those who know their fashion, Italy is the place to buy a bag! After we had our fill checking out these bags, we joined the boys in the main town square for some…you guessed it! Gelato! 🙂
The way home was much faster as we took a car ferry home. Menaggio is just across the lake from Bellagio…and we made it just in time too. As soon as we got home it started pouring rain. Mom made a delicious meal of roast chicken. The day ended with a Skype call to my parents and dinner in our usual spot in the balcony. How lucky can a girl get!
